The University of Indonesia (UI) is a prominent public university located in Depok, West Java, and Jakarta, Indonesia. It is one of the oldest tertiary-level educational institutions in Indonesia, with a history dating back to the early 19th century.

History

The origins of the University of Indonesia can be traced back to 1849, when a school for the training of medical assistants was established in Batavia, now known as Jakarta. This institution evolved over time, eventually becoming the University of Indonesia in 1950, following the independence of Indonesia.
