The University of Indonesia (UI) is a prominent public university located in Depok, West Java, and Jakarta, Indonesia. It is one of the oldest tertiary-level educational institutions in Indonesia, with a history dating back to the early 19th century.

The origins of the University of Indonesia can be traced back to 1849, when a school for the training of medical assistants was established in Batavia, now known as Jakarta.
