Union for International Cancer Control

The Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) is a global organization dedicated to the fight against cancer. Founded in 1933 and headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, UICC's mission is to unite the cancer community to reduce the global cancer burden, promote greater equity, and integrate cancer control into the world health and development agenda.
History[edit]
The UICC was established in 1933 in Paris, France, by a group of cancer researchers and medical professionals. The organization was created to foster collaboration and exchange of knowledge among cancer researchers and clinicians worldwide. Over the decades, UICC has grown to include over 1,200 member organizations in more than 170 countries.
Objectives[edit]
UICC aims to:
- Raise awareness about cancer prevention and control.
- Promote research and knowledge exchange.
- Advocate for policies that reduce the cancer burden.
- Support the development of effective cancer control strategies.
Activities[edit]
UICC organizes the World Cancer Congress and the World Cancer Day to bring attention to cancer issues globally. It also runs several programs and initiatives, such as the Global Initiative for Cancer Registry Development and the City Cancer Challenge, which aim to improve cancer care and control in low- and middle-income countries.
Leadership[edit]

The current CEO of UICC is Cary Adams, who has been leading the organization since 2009. Under his leadership, UICC has expanded its reach and influence in the global health community.
Membership[edit]
UICC's membership includes cancer societies, research institutes, treatment centers, and patient support groups. Members collaborate on projects, share best practices, and participate in UICC's global initiatives.
