Transforming Growth Factor Beta Superfamily (TGF-β superfamily) encompasses a large group of growth factors that play pivotal roles in cellular regulation, development, repair processes, and immune system functions. Members of this superfamily are characterized by their ability to regulate a wide array of cellular processes including cell proliferation, differentiation, migration, apoptosis (programmed cell death), and extracellular matrix production. Structure and Function

These receptors then propagate the signal via SMAD proteins which move into the nucleus to regulate gene expression. The complexity of the signaling pathway allows for tight regulation and specificity of response, depending on the cellular context and the type of ligand involved.

In embryonic development, the TGF-β superfamily is crucial for proper formation of tissues and organs.
