Training (pronunciation: /ˈtreɪnɪŋ/) is a systematic process designed to increase the knowledge, skills, and abilities of individuals or groups. It is often used in the context of professional development and education, but can also refer to physical training in sports or fitness.

Etymology

The term "training" comes from the Old French trahiner, which means to pull, draw or drag. This evolved into the Middle English trainen, which referred to the act of drawing out and manipulating something to achieve a desired outcome.
