The Simpsons is an American animated media franchise created by Matt Groening for the Fox Broadcasting Company. The franchise centers on a satirical depiction of a middle-class American family consisting of Homer Simpson, Marge Simpson, Bart Simpson, Lisa Simpson, and Maggie Simpson. The series is set in the fictional town of Springfield and parodies American culture, society, television, and many aspects of the human condition.

The franchise began with the television series The Simpsons, which debuted on December 17, 1989.
