"The Curse of the Black Spot" is the third episode of the sixth series of the British science fiction television series Doctor Who, which was first broadcast on 7 May 2011 on BBC One. The episode was written by Stephen Thompson and directed by Jeremy Webb.

Plot[edit]

The Eleventh Doctor (Matt Smith), along with his companions Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) and Rory Williams (Arthur Darvill), arrive on a 17th-century pirate ship stranded in calm waters. The ship's crew is terrorized by a mysterious and beautiful siren-like creature, who marks her victims with a black spot on their palm before they disappear.

The Doctor and his companions discover that the siren is actually a virtual doctor from an alien spaceship trapped in the same space as the pirate ship. The siren is trying to heal the injured crew members, but her methods are misunderstood as attacks. The Doctor manages to communicate with the siren and convinces her to release the crew.

"The Curse of the Black Spot" was filmed in Cornwall, with additional scenes shot in a studio. The episode features a mix of practical effects and CGI to create the siren and the alien spaceship.

Reception[edit]

The episode received mixed reviews from critics. Some praised the performances and the pirate-themed storyline, while others felt the plot was too simplistic. Despite this, it was noted for its strong visual effects and engaging character interactions.
