Doctor Who is a British science fiction television series produced by the BBC. The show first aired on 23 November 1963 and has become a significant part of British popular culture. The series depicts the adventures of the Doctor, a Time Lord from the planet Gallifrey, who travels through time and space in the TARDIS, a time-traveling spaceship that appears from the outside to be a British police box.

History

The original series ran from 1963 to 1989, spanning 26 seasons. After a hiatus, a television film was produced in 1996. The series was revived in 2005 and has continued to the present day.
