Testosterone Nicotinate (pronunciation: tes-TOS-ter-one NIK-oh-tin-ate) is a synthetic derivative of the naturally occurring male sex hormone, Testosterone. It is used in the treatment of Hypogonadism and other conditions associated with low testosterone levels.
Etymology
The term "Testosterone" is derived from the Greek words "testis", which means testicle, and "ster", a suffix indicating a steroid. The "one" at the end signifies that it is a ketone. "Nicotinate" is derived from "Nicotinic acid", a type of Vitamin B3, and the suffix "-ate" indicating it is a salt or ester of an acid.
Usage
Testosterone Nicotinate is used in medicine to treat conditions that occur due to low levels of testosterone in the body. These conditions include Hypogonadism, delayed puberty in boys, and certain types of breast cancer in women. It is also used in hormone therapy for transgender men.
