Terbequinil
Terbequinil is a drug that is classified as a quinoline derivative. It is known for its antifungal properties and is used in the treatment of various fungal infections.
History[edit]
Terbequinil was first synthesized in the late 20th century as part of a series of quinoline derivatives. It was found to have potent antifungal properties and was subsequently developed for medical use.
Pharmacology[edit]
Terbequinil works by inhibiting the growth of fungi. It does this by interfering with the synthesis of ergosterol, a key component of the fungal cell membrane. This disruption in the production of ergosterol leads to changes in the permeability of the fungal cell membrane, ultimately leading to cell death.
Medical uses[edit]
Terbequinil is used in the treatment of a variety of fungal infections. These include Candidiasis, Aspergillosis, and Cryptococcosis. It is also used in the treatment of Onychomycosis, a fungal infection that affects the nails.
Side effects[edit]
Like all drugs, Terbequinil can cause side effects. These can include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. In rare cases, it can cause more serious side effects such as hepatotoxicity and neutropenia.
