Striptease
Striptease
Striptease (/ˈstriːptiːz/) is a type of erotic dance where the performer gradually undresses, either partly or completely, in a seductive and sexually suggestive manner.[1] The person who performs a striptease is commonly known as a "stripper" or exotic dancer.
Etymology
The term "striptease" was first recorded in 1938, though the act of striptease itself has been performed since ancient times. It is a portmanteau of "strip" and "tease".[2]
History
Striptease as a form of public entertainment originated in the late 19th century Parisian music hall and vaudeville circuits. It gained popularity in the early 20th century and became a feature of burlesque shows.[3]
