Entertainment (pronunciation: /ˌɛntərˈteɪnmənt/) is a form of activity that holds the attention and interest of an audience or gives pleasure and delight. It can be an idea or a task, but is more likely to be one of the activities or events that have developed over thousands of years specifically for the purpose of keeping an audience's attention.

Etymology

The term "entertainment" is derived from the Old French word "entretenir", which means "to hold together" or "to hold in". It was first used in the English language in the late 15th century.

  • Dance: This is a performing art form consisting of purposefully selected sequences of human movement.
  • Visual Arts: This is a class of art forms, including painting, sculpture, photography, printmaking and others, that focus on the creation of works which are primarily visual in nature.
