Sheryl Sandberg
American business executive and author
Sheryl Kara Sandberg (born August 28, 1969) is an American business executive, billionaire, and author. She is best known for serving as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Meta (formerly Facebook), a position she held from 2008 to 2022. Sandberg is also the author of the best-selling book Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead.
Early life and education
Sheryl Sandberg was born in Washington, D.C., and grew up in North Miami Beach, Florida. She attended North Miami Beach High School, where she graduated with honors. Sandberg went on to attend Harvard University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in economics in 1991. While at Harvard, she co-founded an organization called Women in Economics and Government. She later earned her Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Harvard Business School in 1995.
Career
Early career
After graduating from Harvard, Sandberg worked as a management consultant for McKinsey & Company for a year. She then served as Chief of Staff to Lawrence Summers, the United States Secretary of the Treasury, under President Bill Clinton.
In 2001, Sandberg joined Google Inc., where she was responsible for online sales of Google's advertising and publishing products, as well as for sales operations of Google's consumer products and Google Book Search. She was instrumental in launching Google's philanthropic arm, Google.org.
Meta (Facebook)
In 2008, Sandberg joined Facebook as its Chief Operating Officer. During her tenure, she was credited with helping to dramatically increase the company's revenue. Sandberg's role at Facebook included overseeing the firm's business operations, including sales, marketing, business development, human resources, public policy, and communications.

Personal life
Sandberg was married to David Goldberg, the CEO of SurveyMonkey, until his death in 2015. She has two children. Sandberg is known for her advocacy for women's rights and gender equality in the workplace.
Philanthropy
Sandberg is a notable philanthropist, having donated millions to various causes, including education, women's rights, and disaster relief. She founded the Lean In Foundation, which aims to support women in achieving their ambitions.
