Sharon Vonne Stone (born March 10, 1958) is an American actress, producer, and former fashion model. She is known for her roles in various films and television series, and has received several accolades, including a Golden Globe Award and a Primetime Emmy Award, as well as an Academy Award nomination.

Early life

Sharon Stone was born in Meadville, Pennsylvania, to Dorothy Marie (née Lawson), an accountant, and Joseph William Stone II, a tool and die manufacturer and factory worker. She has three siblings: Michael, Kelly, and Patrick. Stone was considered academically gifted as a child and entered the second grade when she was five years old. She graduated from Saegertown High School in Saegertown, Pennsylvania, in 1975.

Career

Modeling

Stone moved to New York City to pursue a career in modeling. She signed with the Ford Modeling Agency and appeared in various advertisements and magazines.

Acting

Stone made her film debut as an extra in Woody Allen's Stardust Memories (1980). Her first speaking part was in the horror film Deadly Blessing (1981). She gained further recognition with her role in Total Recall (1990), opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Her breakthrough came with the role of Catherine Tramell in the erotic thriller Basic Instinct (1992), directed by Paul Verhoeven. The film was a major commercial success and established Stone as a leading actress. She received a Golden Globe Award nomination for her performance.
