Law & Order: Special Victims Unit
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (often abbreviated as SVU) is an American police procedural and legal drama television series created by Dick Wolf for NBC. The first spin-off of Law & Order, it stars Mariska Hargitay as Olivia Benson, the lead detective of the Special Victims Unit in a fictionalized version of the New York City Police Department. The series premiered on September 20, 1999, and has since become one of the longest-running primetime television series in the United States.
