Schwenksville, Pennsylvania

Schwenksville, Pennsylvania is a borough in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, United States. The borough is part of the Philadelphia Metropolitan Area, the 8th largest metropolitan area in the United States.

History

Schwenksville was originally settled in the 18th century and was named after George Schwenk, whose son, Jacob Schwenk, served in the American Revolutionary War. The town was incorporated as a borough in 1903.

Geography

Schwenksville is located along the Perkiomen Creek, a tributary of the Schuylkill River. The borough is surrounded by Perkiomen Township, and is proximate to the Perkiomen Trail, a multi-use rail trail running from Oaks to Green Lane.

Demographics

As of the 2010 census, the borough was 94.0% White, 2.0% Black or African American, 0.2% Native American, 1.0% Asian, and 1.8% were two or more races. About 4.4% of the population were of Hispanic or Latino ancestry.

Education

Schwenksville is served by the Perkiomen Valley School District. Students in grades K-5 attend Schwenksville Elementary School, while older students attend Perkiomen Valley Middle School East and Perkiomen Valley High School.
