Sbarro is a United States-based chain of pizza restaurants that specializes in New York-style pizza sold by the slice and other Italian-American cuisine. The company was founded in 1956 by Gennaro and Carmela Sbarro.

History

Sbarro was founded in 1956 by Gennaro and Carmela Sbarro, who immigrated to the United States from Naples, Italy. They opened their first salumeria (Italian grocery store) in Brooklyn, New York City. The success of their grocery store led them to open their first pizzeria in 1967 in the Kings Plaza Shopping Center in Brooklyn.

Menu

Sbarro's menu primarily features pizza, but it also includes a variety of other Italian-American dishes such as pasta, salads, and desserts. The chain is known for its New York-style pizza, which is characterized by its large, thin, and foldable slices.

Locations

Sbarro operates over 600 locations in 28 countries. The majority of its restaurants are located in shopping malls, but the company has also expanded to other venues such as airports, college campuses, and casinos.

Corporate Structure

Sbarro is headquartered in Columbus, Ohio. The company has undergone several changes in ownership and has filed for bankruptcy protection multiple times, most recently in 2014. Despite these challenges, Sbarro continues to operate and expand its presence both domestically and internationally.

Marketing and Branding

Sbarro has utilized various marketing strategies over the years, including partnerships with other brands and promotional campaigns. The company has also rebranded itself several times to stay relevant in the competitive fast-food industry.
