Sanford Health (/ˈsænfərd hɛlθ/) is a non-profit, integrated healthcare system based in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, United States. It is one of the largest health systems in the United States.
Etymology
The name "Sanford" is derived from the philanthropist Denny Sanford, who has made significant donations to the health system.
History
Sanford Health was formed in 2009 when two long-standing health systems, Sioux Valley Hospitals and Health System and MeritCare, merged. The merger was aimed at improving the quality of healthcare services and expanding the reach of healthcare to more people.
