Sample

(Redirected from Sampled)

Sample is a term used in various fields such as statistics, music, medicine, and computer science to denote a subset or a representative part of a larger whole or population.

Definition[edit]

In statistics, a sample refers to a set of observations or data points collected from a larger population for the purpose of making inferences about that population. This process is known as sampling.

In music, a sample is a sound or a piece of sound that is used in the production of music. It can be a short clip of sound, a loop, or a beat, which is then manipulated or sequenced to create music. This practice is common in genres such as hip hop and electronic music.

In medicine, a sample can refer to a small amount of a substance, such as blood or tissue, that is taken from the body to be tested in a laboratory. This is often done to diagnose diseases or to monitor the progress of treatment.

In computer science, a sample can refer to a single value or set of values at a point in time and/or space. For example, in digital audio, a sample is a single output value from a digital-to-analog converter.

Sampling Techniques[edit]

There are various techniques used in the process of sampling, depending on the field and the purpose of the sample. In statistics, these techniques include simple random sampling, stratified sampling, and cluster sampling. In music, sampling techniques can involve digital sampling, synthesis, and looping.
