Sam Mbulaiteye
Sam Mbulaiteye is a renowned epidemiologist and medical researcher known for his significant contributions to the field of infectious diseases, particularly cancer associated with infectious diseases. He is currently a Senior Investigator at the National Cancer Institute (NCI), a part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in the United States.
Early Life and Education
Mbulaiteye was born and raised in Uganda, where he completed his early education. He later moved to the United Kingdom for his higher studies. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of London, and subsequently completed his Master's degree in Epidemiology from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
Career
After completing his education, Mbulaiteye returned to Uganda and began his career as a medical officer at the Uganda Cancer Institute. His work primarily focused on Kaposi's sarcoma, a type of cancer commonly associated with HIV infection.
In 1999, Mbulaiteye moved to the United States and joined the National Cancer Institute. At NCI, he has been involved in several significant research projects, particularly those related to infectious diseases and cancer. His research has significantly contributed to the understanding of the epidemiology of HIV-associated malignancies and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) associated malignancies.
Research
Mbulaiteye's research has primarily focused on cancers associated with infectious diseases. He has conducted extensive research on Kaposi's sarcoma, a type of cancer that is commonly associated with HIV infection. His research has helped in understanding the epidemiology of this disease and has contributed to the development of effective treatment strategies.
