The American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) is a professional organization dedicated to advancing the understanding of cancer and its prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. Founded in 1907, the AACR is the oldest and largest scientific organization in the world focused on cancer research.
History
The AACR was established in 1907 by a group of 11 physicians and scientists interested in research "to further the investigation and spread the knowledge of cancer." The founding members included prominent figures such as Dr. James Ewing and Dr. William B. Coley. The organization has grown significantly over the years and now includes more than 47,000 members in 127 countries.
Mission and Goals
The mission of the AACR is to prevent and cure cancer through research, education, communication, and collaboration. The organization aims to:
