Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center is a for-profit general and teaching hospital located in Reno, Nevada, United States. It is owned and operated by Prime Healthcare Services and serves as an affiliate teaching site for the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine.
History[edit]
The hospital was originally founded in 1908 by the Dominican Sisters of San Rafael as Sister's Hospital. In 1912, a new facility was constructed and the hospital was renamed Saint Mary's Hospital. Over the decades, the campus expanded significantly, evolving into the present-day Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center.
In 2006, Saint Mary's became an affiliate of Catholic Healthcare West (now known as CommonSpirit Health). However, under CHW ownership, the hospital experienced financial challenges. As a result, it was acquired in 2012 by Prime Healthcare Services, a private, for-profit healthcare network.
Facilities and Services[edit]
Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center is a 380-bed facility offering comprehensive medical and surgical services, including:
- Emergency care
- Cardiology and cardiovascular surgery
- Oncology and radiation therapy

Controversies[edit]
Prime Healthcare Services, the hospital's parent company, has faced federal investigations by the United States Department of Justice for alleged Medicare fraud and billing irregularities. Despite these investigations, the hospital continues to operate and expand its services.
