Saint Louis University
Saint Louis University (SLU) is a private Jesuit research university located in St. Louis, Missouri, United States. Founded in 1818 by the Most Reverend Louis William Valentine Dubourg, SLU is the oldest university west of the Mississippi River and the second-oldest Jesuit university in the United States. It is a member of the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities. The university is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.
History
Saint Louis University was established in 1818 when the Society of Jesus founded a college for young men. It received its charter as a university in 1832, making it the first university to be chartered west of the Mississippi River.
