Rockledge, Pennsylvania
Rockledge is a borough in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, in the United States. It is part of the Philadelphia Metropolitan Area and is located approximately 10 miles north of downtown Philadelphia. The borough was incorporated in 1894 and has a rich history that is closely tied to the development of the region.
History
Rockledge was originally part of Abington Township, one of the oldest communities in Montgomery County. The area was first settled in the late 17th century by Quakers who migrated from England. The borough was incorporated in 1894, and its development was largely driven by the growth of the railroad industry in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Geography
Rockledge is located in the southeastern part of Montgomery County. It is bordered by the borough of Jenkintown to the north, the township of Abington to the west, and the city of Philadelphia to the south and east. The borough covers an area of 0.34 square miles, all of it land.
Demographics
As of the 2010 United States Census, the population of Rockledge was 2,543. The borough has a diverse population, with a mix of different ethnicities and age groups.
Economy
The economy of Rockledge is primarily based on local businesses and services. The borough is home to a number of small businesses, including restaurants, shops, and professional services. The proximity to Philadelphia also provides residents with access to a larger job market.
