Revenue (IPA: /ˈrɛvɪnjuː/)
Revenue is the total amount of income generated by the sale of goods or services related to a company's primary operations. Revenue, also known as sales, is often referred to as the "top line" because it sits at the top of the company's income statement.
Etymology
The term "revenue" comes from the Old French revenu, meaning "that which comes back". It was first used in English in the early 15th century to refer to the returns from property or possessions.
