Observation tower in Dallas, Texas

Reunion Tower in Dallas, Texas

Reunion Tower is a prominent observation tower located in Dallas, Texas. It is part of the Hyatt Regency Dallas hotel complex and is one of the city's most recognizable landmarks. The tower is often referred to as "The Ball" due to its distinctive geodesic dome at the top.

History[edit]

Reunion Tower was completed in 1978 as part of a major urban redevelopment project in the downtown area. The tower was designed by the architectural firm of Welton Becket & Associates, known for their modernist designs. The tower's construction was part of a broader effort to revitalize the Reunion district, which was named after the mid-19th century commune, La Réunion.

Architecture[edit]

The tower stands at 561 feet (171 meters) and consists of three cylindrical shafts that support a large sphere made up of aluminum struts. The sphere is 68 feet (21 meters) in diameter and is covered with 260 lights that create a dazzling light show at night. The design of the tower is a striking example of modern architecture and is a key feature of the Dallas skyline.

Features[edit]

The top of the tower houses the GeO-Deck, an observation deck that offers panoramic views of the city. Visitors can access the deck via an elevator that travels at a speed of 800 feet per minute. The GeO-Deck features interactive displays that provide information about the city's history and landmarks.

Dining[edit]

Reunion Tower is also home to a revolving restaurant, which offers diners a 360-degree view of the city as they enjoy their meals. The restaurant completes one full revolution every 55 minutes, providing a unique dining experience.

Lighting and Events[edit]

The tower's lighting system is used for various events and celebrations, including New Year's Eve and Independence Day. The lights can be programmed to display different colors and patterns, making the tower a focal point for city celebrations.
