Ralph Kohn

Ralph Kohn (1927-2016) was a British pharmacologist, businessman, and baritone singer. He was known for his significant contributions to the field of pharmacology, his successful business ventures, and his passion for music, particularly his performances as a baritone singer.

Early Life and Education

Ralph Kohn was born in 1927 in Leipzig, Germany. He moved to the United Kingdom in 1939 to escape the Nazi regime. He studied at the University of London, where he earned a degree in pharmacy. He later obtained a doctorate in pharmacology from the University of Cambridge.

Kohn's career spanned across multiple fields, including pharmacology, business, and music.

Pharmacology

Kohn made significant contributions to the field of pharmacology. He was the founder of the Advisory Centre for Education and the Kohn Foundation, both of which aimed to promote scientific research and education. He was also a Fellow of the Royal Society, a prestigious scientific academy in the UK.

Business

In addition to his work in pharmacology, Kohn was a successful businessman. He founded the pharmaceutical company Advisory Centre for Education (ACE), which was later sold to the Wellcome Foundation.

Music

Kohn was also a passionate baritone singer. He performed in numerous concerts and recitals throughout his life. He was particularly known for his performances of the works of Johann Sebastian Bach.

Awards and Honours

Kohn received numerous awards and honours throughout his career. In 1998, he was awarded the Prince Mahidol Award for his contributions to the field of medicine. He was also awarded the Queen's Award for Enterprise for his business ventures.

Ralph Kohn passed away in 2016 at the age of 89.
