Perkiomenville, Pennsylvania

Perkiomenville, Pennsylvania is a small unincorporated community located in the Montgomery County of the United States. It is situated within the Upper Frederick Township and is part of the Philadelphia Metropolitan Area.

History[edit]

Perkiomenville was named after the Perkiomen Creek, which flows through the area. The name "Perkiomen" is derived from the Lenape word Pakihm Unk which means "where the cranberries grow". The area was originally inhabited by the Lenape people before European settlers arrived in the 17th century.

Geography[edit]

Perkiomenville is located at the intersection of Route 29 and Route 73. It is surrounded by a mix of farmland, forests, and residential areas. The Perkiomen Creek, a tributary of the Schuylkill River, flows through the community.

Demographics[edit]

As an unincorporated community, specific demographic data for Perkiomenville is not collected. However, it is part of the Upper Frederick Township, which as of the 2010 census, had a population of 3,523.

Education[edit]

Perkiomenville is served by the Boyertown Area School District. Students attend the New Hanover-Upper Frederick Elementary School, Boyertown Area Middle School East, and Boyertown Area Senior High School.

Recreation[edit]

The Perkiomen Trail, a 19-mile long multi-use rail trail, runs through Perkiomenville, providing opportunities for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. The trail follows the route of the former Perkiomen Railroad.
