Pancreatic Polypeptide

Pancreatic polypeptide (pronounced pan-kree-uh-tik pah-li-pep-tide) is a polypeptide hormone secreted by the pancreas, specifically by the F cells located in the Islets of Langerhans.

Etymology

The term "pancreatic polypeptide" is derived from the Greek words pankreas (all flesh) and polypeptide (many peptides), referring to the organ where it is produced and its chemical structure, respectively.

Function

Pancreatic polypeptide regulates the secretion of pancreatic juice, which aids in digestion. It also slows down the movement of food through the digestive tract, allowing more time for nutrients to be absorbed.
