== One True Church ==

The concept of the One True Church is a theological belief held by certain Christian denominations that they alone represent the true and authentic continuation of the church established by Jesus Christ and his apostles. This belief is often associated with claims of exclusive possession of the means of salvation and the fullness of Christian doctrine.

Historical Background

The idea of a single, true church can be traced back to the early Christian communities. The Nicene Creed, formulated in the 4th century, professes belief in "one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church." This creed has been a foundational statement for many Christian denominations, including the Roman Catholic Church, the Eastern Orthodox Church, and various Protestant groups.

Roman Catholic Church

The Roman Catholic Church claims to be the one true church based on its historical continuity with the apostles, particularly through the papacy, which it views as the successor to Saint Peter. The Catechism of the Catholic Church states that the Church is "the sole Church of Christ" and that it possesses the fullness of the means of salvation.

Eastern Orthodox Church

The Eastern Orthodox Church also claims to be the one true church, emphasizing its adherence to the original teachings and practices of the early Christian community. The Orthodox Church maintains that it has preserved the true faith through its Holy Tradition and the decisions of the Ecumenical Councils.

Protestant Views

Various Protestant denominations have different interpretations of the concept of the one true church. Some, like the Lutheran Church, believe in the "invisible church," which consists of all true believers regardless of denominational affiliation. Others, such as certain Restorationist groups, claim to have restored the original church of the New Testament.

Latter-day Saint Movement

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) asserts that it is the one true church, restored through the prophet Joseph Smith. The LDS Church teaches that it is the only church with the authority to perform certain ordinances necessary for salvation.
