Niuvanniemi Hospital (pronunciation: /ˈniːuːvɑːnːiːɛmiː/), also known as Niuvanniemi Mental Hospital, is a psychiatric hospital located in Kuopio, Finland. The hospital was established in the year 1885 and is one of the oldest psychiatric hospitals in Finland.

Etymology

The name "Niuvanniemi" is derived from the Finnish words "niuva" meaning "cape" and "niemi" meaning "peninsula". The hospital is named after the geographical location where it is situated, on a peninsula in the city of Kuopio.
