Night

Night (pronounced: /naɪt/) is the period of time when the sun is below the horizon. This occurs after dusk and before dawn, when no direct sunlight is visible.

Etymology

The term "night" comes from the Old English niht, which is derived from the Proto-Germanic *nahts.

Definition

Night is defined as the time between sunset and sunrise, when a location faces away from the sun, causing it to be dark. This darkness is often associated with rest and relaxation, as many organisms, including humans, have a daily pattern of sleep and wakefulness called the circadian rhythm.
