Nicocodeine is a semisynthetic opioid analgesic and antitussive derived from codeine. It is used in the treatment of mild to moderate pain and for the suppression of cough. Nicocodeine is metabolized in the body to nicomorphine and codeine, which are responsible for its analgesic and antitussive effects.

Pharmacology[edit]

Nicocodeine works by binding to the opioid receptors in the central nervous system, which leads to a decrease in the perception of pain and a reduction in the cough reflex. The drug is metabolized in the liver by the enzyme CYP2D6 into its active metabolites.
