== National Recreation Area ==
A National Recreation Area (NRA) is a designation for a protected area in the United States that is managed for the purpose of providing recreational opportunities to the public. These areas are typically managed by federal agencies such as the National Park Service, the United States Forest Service, or the Bureau of Land Management. National Recreation Areas are established by an act of Congress and are intended to preserve natural resources while offering a variety of outdoor activities.
History
The concept of National Recreation Areas was first introduced in the mid-20th century as a way to address the growing demand for outdoor recreation. The first NRA, Lake Mead National Recreation Area, was established in 1964. Since then, numerous other areas have been designated as NRAs, each offering unique recreational opportunities and natural features.
Management
National Recreation Areas are managed to balance the preservation of natural and cultural resources with the provision of recreational opportunities. Management practices may include the development of facilities such as campgrounds, trails, and visitor centers, as well as the implementation of conservation measures to protect wildlife and natural habitats.
Activities
NRAs offer a wide range of recreational activities, including:
