National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases

National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS) is a part of the United States Department of Health and Human Services and the National Institutes of Health (NIH). It is primarily focused on supporting research into the causes, treatment, and prevention of arthritis and musculoskeletal and skin diseases. The institute also disseminates information on a wide range of these conditions to the public and health professionals.

Overview[edit]

The NIAMS was established in 1986, following the Health Research Extension Act. Its mission is to support research into the causes, treatment, and prevention of arthritis and musculoskeletal and skin diseases; the training of basic and clinical scientists to carry out this research; and the dissemination of information on research progress in these diseases.
