A nanosecond (International System of Units symbol: ns) is a unit of time in the International System of Units (SI) that is equal to one billionth (short scale) of a second (0.000 000 001 seconds). SI prefixes are used to denote fractions and multiples of the second, and the nanosecond is one billionth of a second.
Definition
The nanosecond is a multiple of the second, which is the SI base unit for time. In the metric system, "nano" is the prefix for 10^-9. Nanoseconds are of importance in the telecommunications, computing and laser industries.
