Computing
Computing (pronunciation: /kəmˈpjuːtɪŋ/) is the process of using computer technology to complete a task. Computing includes designing and building hardware and software systems for a wide range of purposes; processing, structuring, and managing various kinds of information; doing scientific research on and with computers; making computer systems behave intelligently; creating and using communications and entertainment media; finding and gathering information relevant to any particular purpose, and so on.
Etymology
The term "computing" is derived from the Latin word "computare", which means to calculate or reckon. The term was adopted into English as "compute" in the 16th century and later evolved into its current form, "computing", in the 19th century.
