Mumbai (pronunciation: /mʊmˈbaɪ/), also known as Bombay until 1995, is the capital city of the Indian state of Maharashtra.
Etymology
The name Mumbai is derived from Mumba Devi, the patron goddess of the Koli fisherfolk, the oldest inhabitants of Mumbai, and Aai which means 'mother' in Marathi. The name Bombay was derived from the Portuguese term 'Bom Bahia' meaning 'Good Bay'.
Geography
Mumbai is located on the western coast of India. It has a deep natural harbour and is considered the financial, commercial and entertainment capital of India. The city is also one of the world's top ten centres of commerce in terms of global financial flow.
Health Infrastructure
Mumbai has a robust health infrastructure with a mix of public and private healthcare facilities. The city is home to some of the best hospitals in India like Breach Candy Hospital, Lilavati Hospital, and Tata Memorial Hospital. The BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation) is responsible for public health and sanitation in the city.
Diseases and Health Issues
Like any other major city, Mumbai faces several health issues. The city has had to deal with outbreaks of diseases like Dengue, Malaria, and Tuberculosis. The city's health department regularly conducts campaigns to raise awareness about these diseases and their prevention.

Mumbai is also a hub for medical education in India. The city has several renowned medical colleges like Grant Medical College, KEM Hospital, and Seth GS Medical College.
