Moravia
Moravia
Moravia (/mɔːˈreɪviə, -ˈrɑː-/; Czech: Morava; German: Mähren; Polish: Morawy; Latin: Moravia) is a historical region in the east of the Czech Republic and one of the historical Czech lands, together with Bohemia and Czech Silesia.
Etymology
The etymology of the name Moravia is uncertain. It may derive from the Proto-Indo-European root *mori (waters), or alternatively from the root *mori (death). The former would indicate that the region was originally a marshland, while the latter would suggest that it was a border region or march.
