Mobility Aid

A Mobility Aid (pronunciation: /moʊˈbɪlɪti eɪd/) is a device designed to assist walking or otherwise improve the mobility of people with a mobility impairment.

Etymology

The term "Mobility Aid" is derived from the English words "Mobility" meaning the ability to move or be moved freely and easily, and "Aid" meaning to provide support or assistance.

Types of Mobility Aids

There are various types of mobility aids, which include:

  • Wheelchairs: These are chairs with wheels, used when walking is difficult or impossible due to illness, injury, or disability.
  • Mobility scooters: These are motorized vehicles with a seat over three, four or more wheels. They are similar to a wheelchair but configured like a motor-scooter.
  • Guide dogs: These are assistance dogs trained to lead blind and visually impaired people around obstacles.
