A Patient Lift (pronunciation: /ˈpeɪʃənt lɪft/) is a type of assistive device designed to help healthcare providers lift and transfer patients with limited mobility.

Etymology

The term "Patient Lift" is derived from the English words "patient", referring to a person receiving or registered to receive medical treatment, and "lift", meaning to raise to a higher position or level.

Description

A Patient Lift is typically composed of a sling that cradles the patient, and a hydraulic, electric, or manual lifting mechanism that raises and lowers the patient. The device is often mounted on wheels to allow for easy transport of the patient between locations, such as from a bed to a wheelchair or from a wheelchair to a bath.

Types of Patient Lifts

There are several types of Patient Lifts, including:
