Mixology

Mixology (pronounced: mix-ol-o-gy) is the art and science of creating cocktails. The term is derived from the words "mix" and the Greek word "logia" which means "study of".

History

The history of mixology dates back to the 19th century when the first cocktail, the Sazerac, was created in New Orleans. The term "mixology" was first used in 1862 in Jerry Thomas' book, "How to Mix Drinks or The Bon Vivant's Companion".

Mixologist vs Bartender

A mixologist is a bartender who specializes in the creation of new drinks, the history of alcoholic beverages, and the art of delivering an excellent customer experience. A bartender on the other hand, is a professional who serves alcoholic beverages in bars, pubs, taverns, or similar establishments.

Tools of Mixology

The tools of mixology include the cocktail shaker, bar spoon, jigger, strainer, and muddler. These tools are used to mix, stir, measure, strain, and muddle ingredients respectively.
