Bronx High School of Science
Bronx High School of Science (commonly referred to as Bronx Science) is a specialized public high school in New York City. It is operated by the New York City Department of Education. The school is known for its focus on science, mathematics, and technology, and it has a reputation for academic excellence.
History
Bronx High School of Science was established in 1938 by William H. Maxwell, the Superintendent of Schools. The school was created to provide an advanced education in science and mathematics to gifted students. It was originally located in the Bronx and has since moved to its current location at 75 West 205th Street in the Bedford Park section of the Bronx.
Admissions
Admission to Bronx Science is highly competitive and is based on the Specialized High Schools Admissions Test (SHSAT). Students from all five boroughs of New York City are eligible to take the test. The school is one of nine specialized high schools in New York City.
Academics
Bronx Science offers a rigorous curriculum with a strong emphasis on science and mathematics. The school offers Advanced Placement (AP) courses in various subjects, including biology, chemistry, physics, calculus, and computer science. In addition to its strong STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) programs, Bronx Science also offers courses in the humanities, social sciences, and the arts.
