He was the Democratic nominee for President of the United States in the 1988 election, losing to the Republican candidate, George H. W. Bush.

Early Life and Education

Michael Dukakis was born in Brookline, Massachusetts, to Greek immigrant parents. He attended Swarthmore College, where he graduated with a degree in political science. He later earned his law degree from Harvard Law School.
