Medical universities in Myanmar

Medical universities in Myanmar (pronunciation: /ˈmɛdɪkəl/ /ˌjuːnɪˈvɜːrsɪtiːz/ /ɪn/ /maɪˈænmɑːr/) are institutions of higher education that provide medical education and training for students in the field of medicine. These universities are regulated by the Ministry of Health and Sports in Myanmar.

Etymology

The term "university" originates from the Latin universitas, meaning "a whole". The term "medical" is derived from the Latin medicus, meaning "physician". The name "Myanmar" is derived from the Burmese word "Myanma", the official name of the country in the Burmese language.

History

The first medical university in Myanmar, the University of Medicine 1, Yangon, was established in 1927. Since then, several other medical universities have been established across the country, including the University of Medicine 2, Yangon, the University of Medicine, Mandalay, and the University of Medicine, Magway.

Curriculum

The curriculum at medical universities in Myanmar typically includes courses in basic sciences, clinical sciences, and medical ethics. Students also receive practical training in hospitals and clinics. After completing their studies, students are awarded a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree.
