MedChi

MedChi (pronounced: med-chai), also known as the Maryland State Medical Society, is a professional organization for physicians in the state of Maryland. It was established in 1799, making it one of the oldest medical societies in the United States.

Etymology

The name "MedChi" is a contraction of the words "Medical" and "Chirurgical", the latter being an archaic term for surgical. The full name of the organization is "The Medical and Chirurgical Faculty of the State of Maryland", but it is commonly referred to as MedChi for short.

Function

MedChi serves as an advocate for physicians, patients, and the public health. It provides a forum for members to discuss healthcare issues and policies, and it represents the interests of physicians and patients in the legislative process.
