McDonald's Championship (golf)

McDonald's Championship was a professional golf tournament that took place in the United States. The tournament was part of the PGA Tour and was held annually from 1981 to 1996. The event was sponsored by the fast-food chain McDonald's and was also known as the McDonald's Kids Classic and the McDonald's Championship B.C. Open.

History

The McDonald's Championship was first held in 1981. The tournament was initially known as the McDonald's Kids Classic and was organized to raise funds for the Ronald McDonald House Charities. In 1986, the tournament was renamed the McDonald's Championship B.C. Open and became part of the official PGA Tour schedule.

Format

The McDonald's Championship was a stroke play tournament, which is the most common format in professional golf. The tournament was played over four days, with 18 holes played each day, for a total of 72 holes. The player with the lowest number of strokes at the end of the four days was declared the winner.

Notable Winners

Several notable golfers have won the McDonald's Championship, including Fred Couples, John Daly, and Hal Sutton. Fred Couples won the tournament in 1983, John Daly in 1992, and Hal Sutton in 1995.

Legacy

The McDonald's Championship was discontinued after the 1996 event. However, the tournament is remembered for its charitable contributions and for providing a platform for some of golf's biggest names to showcase their skills.
