Mathematical (math-uh-MAT-ih-kul)

Mathematical is an adjective that pertains to or is characterized by mathematics, the science of numbers and their operations, interrelations, combinations, generalizations, and abstractions and of space configurations and their structure, measurement, transformations, and generalizations.

Etymology

The term "mathematical" is derived from the Greek word "mathēmatikós", which means "relating to learning or scholarly knowledge." It was first used in English in the 15th century.
