Marseille Naval Fire Battalion
The Marseille Naval Fire Battalion (Bataillon de Marins-Pompiers de Marseille, or BMPM) is the fire brigade for the city of Marseille, France. The BMPM is a unit of the French Navy (Marine Nationale), and its firefighters are therefore sailors (marins).

Etymology
The term "Bataillon de Marins-Pompiers de Marseille" is derived from the French words bataillon (battalion), marins (sailors), pompiers (firefighters), and Marseille (the city of Marseille).
History
The BMPM was created on 1 January 1939, following the fire on the passenger ship SS Sinaia. Today, it is one of the two fire-fighting military units in France, along with the Paris Fire Brigade.
Organization
The BMPM is commanded by a naval officer, usually a vice admiral. It includes several company divisions, each responsible for a specific area of the city.
