Magneto
Magneto is a fictional character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics, commonly in association with the X-Men. Created by writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby, the character first appeared in X-Men #1 (September 1963) as an adversary of the X-Men. Magneto is a powerful mutant with the ability to generate and control magnetism and manipulate metal.
Character Biography
Magneto, whose real name is Max Eisenhardt, was born to a Jewish family in Germany and survived the Holocaust. His experiences during this time shaped his outlook on the world and his belief in mutant superiority. He later adopted the name Erik Lehnsherr and became a staunch advocate for mutant rights, often clashing with his former friend and X-Men founder, Professor X.
Powers and Abilities
Magneto possesses the ability to generate and control magnetic fields, which allows him to manipulate metal objects, create force fields, and fly. His powers also grant him a heightened resistance to telepathic attacks. Magneto's control over magnetism is so precise that he can manipulate the iron in blood, which he has used to incapacitate his enemies.
Allies and Enemies
Magneto has had a complex relationship with the X-Men, sometimes serving as their enemy and other times as their ally. His primary adversaries include Professor X, the X-Men, and various human organizations that oppose mutantkind. Magneto has also led his own group of mutants, known as the Brotherhood of Mutants, which has included members such as Mystique, Quicksilver, and Scarlet Witch.
Appearances in Other Media
Magneto has appeared in various forms of media, including animated television series, films, and video games. In the X-Men film series, he has been portrayed by actors Ian McKellen and Michael Fassbender. The character's portrayal in these films has been praised for its depth and complexity.
