Etymology
The name "Losartan" is derived from its chemical name, which is 2-butyl-4-chloro-1-p-(o-1H-tetrazol-5-ylphenyl)benzylimidazole-5-methanol monopotassium salt. "Hydrochlorothiazide" is derived from its chemical name, which is 6-chloro-3,4-dihydro-2H-1,2,4-benzothiadiazine-7-sulfonamide 1,1-dioxide.
Usage
Losartan works by blocking the action of certain natural substances that tighten the blood vessels, allowing the blood to flow more smoothly and the heart to pump more efficiently. Hydrochlorothiazide works by causing the kidneys to get rid of unneeded water and salt from the body into the urine.
